  • Videos may use linear narratives telling the story of the song or performance montages to draw attention to the song or the performers 
  • Videos may use contrasting settings and associated lighting – location or studio or in performance, urban or rural, exotic or everyday, to match the style of music and the musician’s image 
  • Videos may use contrasting camerawork and editing to create a tone to match the song and the musician(s), by creating documentary style naturalism or a more stylised performance, for example 
  • Videos may use only the music track as soundtrack or may add diegetic elements to help create a self-contained fictional world 
  • Any other valid contrasting media language

  • This music video adheres to the pop conventions of having a narrative to draw attention to Katy Perry's entertaining character, therefore drawing audiences in to watching more of her music videos because through this video, she is represented as a fun character.                                        This video also uses added diagetic sound on top of the music soundtrack for example, her talking to help the audience believe this fictional narrative.

Front Cover Analysis The 'Top Pops' magazine's main image is of Rita Ora. She's a famous pop singer, so her presence in this magazine come's to no surprise. The photo is a close up of her upper body to her face; however most of her body is covered by text or other images making her face the most clear and emphasised part of her body. This is probably because her face is most likely the most recognisable feature of her.       The rest of the cover is filled with more images and text, therefore the designers must have wanted the whole of the cover to be full of different aspects that draw in the audience, without 'wasting space' on things that wouldn't necessarily interest the target audience.
